This first half of the spring term has been really busy with workshops, poetry readings, story-telling and talks.
We have performed around forty workshops that mostly consisted of our popular The Lady with the Lamp Workshops and Great Fire Workshops. We have also performed our History of Flight Workshop, our Castle, Knights and Dragons Workshop, our Chinese New Year Workshop, as well as, our Voyage with the Vikings Workshop.
We had a request, this half term, to perform our Victorian Values Workshop to both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, not at the same time, but to adapt this workshop for both age groups, with each workshop covering this topic with varying amounts of depth and information.
We are always happy to re-write our workshops to suit the school’s curriculum requirements and our workshops are always well received by the school children as they love the experience of dressing up and getting involved in a war scene, being wrapped up in bandages, being part of the Chinese dragon or sailing in the Viking Longboat. The feedback from the teachers is always good, praising the workshop as a great catalyst to learning a subject, or as a overview of what the children have learnt already.
We have made several visits to care homes and it’s nice to be able to go in and see the residents in the New Year after the busyness of Christmas time has worn off. Sometimes, the residents can feel a little flat during the first few weeks of the year and it is lovely to have the chance to be able to cheer them up and share a light-hearted feel-good story to help brighten the dull wintery January days.
We enjoyed sharing talks on the Chinese New Year and Burns Night this January too, as well as reading, The Important of Being Earnest play and other short stories.
